Six-course lute for sale Francisco Hervás, 2008

This is a wonderfully sounding six-course lute in “like new” condition made by the Spanish master luthier Francisco Hervás in the fall of 2008. The model is based on iconographical sources of the early Sixteenth-Century since no original instruments from the time have survived unaltered. It has quite a robust soundboard and fewer than usual bars in imitation of the Mahler and Frei surviving instruments. These features make it sound extremely loud and yet refined. It projects exceptionally well in large halls. It is very balanced in sound and it is very easy to render polyphony clearly with it due to its definition and “singing” quality.

It has two elegant inlays on each side of the soundboard, a feature often seem in Spanish and Italian lute iconography of the Renaissance. The soundboard has a half-edge in a quite white wood and is almost invisible. This protects the instrument from cracks. The string length is 58cm long and can be successfully tuned either in G or A (440 or 415 MHz).

The reason for selling it is that I hardly perform the early repertoire for six-course lute and I am much more in need of a 10-course instrument right now. The original price was 3750 €. It comes with a made-to-measure Manzano black case also in mint condition.

2850 €
